The International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies started its General Assembly meetings in Nairobi, Kenya today.
The General Assembly is the supreme body of the IFRC and is composed of delegates from National Societies who are members of the federation. The General Assembly meets every two years to determine the general policy of the organization, elect its president and secretary general, and to make decisions on the admission or suspension of National Societies.
Members of the National Assembly wrap up their work on November 21. After a short break, the Council of Delegates begins its work from November 23 to November 25.
