Key West – The American Red Cross is continuing to recruit volunteers to be trained to respond the next time a disaster strikes. This free disaster volunteer training will qualify you to be a member of the local Disaster Action Team (DAT) or a member of the National Red Cross Disaster Response system.

The local DAT responds to all local residential fires and offers assistance to those affected, such as with the house fires that have occurred recently on Stock Island.

Key West, FL - Volunteers are the lifeblood of the American Red Cross, helping our community during times of disaster and teaching lifesaving skills such as CPR.

In the Lower Keys, Jennifer Potter has shown a tremendous amount of dedication working in the financial development department and helping people affected by disasters as a member of the Disaster Action Team.

The American Red Cross and Grainger recently launched the Ready When the Time Comes initiative ensuring that volunteers are trained and ready to assist before a disaster strikes in South Florida.

“With the very busy hurricane season that is forecast this year, it’s even more important that our corporate neighbors be ready to help our community,” said Sam Tidwell, CEO of the American Red Cross South Florida Region. “Ready When the Time Comes and our friends at Grainger are helping us do just that. With their employees ready and trained, the American Red Cross will be better equipped to handle any disaster.”
